One of our Chimineas for sale.

The origin of the Chiminea lies in southern Mexico in the ancient history of the Mayan people, according to The Oklahoman. The Mayans discovered that the clay they found in dark, damp places, like caves, could be fired and used to cook food. These ovens became more popular over time and began to move north over time. By the 17th century, people in northern Mexico were using chimineas to bake bread and heat their homes at night when the desert gets cool. These ovens later found their way to America when contact between Mexico and the United States became widespread.

Chimenas are made out of terracotta, put in a fired kiln and dried. Many Chimineas are then painted in decorative styles, but originally they were not painted.

We think a number of these Chimineas could be a good fit for an outdoor patio or entertainment space and can offer you and your guests an inviting look, along some heat as we head into fall. Stop by our stores in either Bechtelsville or Neffs to see our selection of Chimineas.
